Rafael Gonzalez GUILLEN
Rafael Gonzalez Guillen is the president and principal shareholder of BRC Investor Services S.A. (BRCIS), a leading full-service national credit rating agency with offices in Bogota, Colombia. Mr. Gonzalez, in association with the international rating agency Thomson BankWatch, initially organized the company as BankWatch Ratings de Colombia in 1998. In 2001, following Thomson BankWatch's sale to a competitor, Mr. Gonzalez and a small group of local and international investors acquired all the outstanding shares and renamed the company. The Colombian securities and banking regulatory authorities reviewed and approved the new shareholder group and granted BRCIS a permanent license extension. Following the successful re-branding, BRCIS resumed a growth trajectory, currently holding an approximately 45% share of the local rating market.
Prior to organizing BRC, Mr. Gonzalez was a bank executive with marketing and management responsibilities. His affiliations included institutions based in Colombia, Ecuador and the United States, among them Banco Comercio (Colombia), Banco del Pichincha (Ecuador), and Corestates Bank (USA).
Mr. Gonzalez has 20 years experience in Credit Risk Evaluation, particularly in a) credit risk analysis of corporations, banks, investment funds, public sector institutions, sovereigns, and project finance, and b) the establishment of risk management policies and standards for financial institutions as member of credit committees and boards of directors. He had 15 years experience in commercial banking selling financial products and managing sales forces, mainly targeted towards medium-large local and multinational companies. As International Vice-President of a commercial bank, Banco del Pichincha C.A. Ecuador, he also gained experience in international business.
Mr. Gonzalez holds an engineering degree from the Universidad Javeriana Bogota, a Masters Degree in Economics from the same university and has taken professional certificate courses at other institutions of higher learning.
